BIKE TO WORK 2024 – GO TO WORK WITH A CLEAR HEAD

CYCLING COMMUTERS AND THOSE WHO ALWAYS WANTED TO DO IT, BEWARE!

From August 19th to September 15th, 2024, the city of Dortmund's "Bike to Work" campaign will take place for the fourth time, encouraging people to switch modes of transport. Those who choose the bicycle over the car in the morning make a decision against stress, for the environment, and also for more work-ride balance through fresh air and exercise. As a team competition, "Bike to Work" is primarily intended to make the commute an enjoyable experience and bring colleagues together.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

In the bike app “Bike Citizens” offered by the city of Dortmund, you can register for the “Bike to Work” campaign and form teams with your colleagues and compete against each other. From now on, it's important to get on your bike as often as possible and enjoy driving with the wind on your way to and from work. With every route you cycle to the office, you collect points that will move your team and your company forward in the challenge. This means that every team and every company can move up in the nationwide ranking week after week. Participation – and the app itself – is of course free for everyone thanks to funding from the city.

To the background

The campaign is part of the measures that the city of Dortmund is taking to make mobility in the city more sustainable. Every single person contributes to making Dortmund more bike-friendly in the future. Popular routes are recorded anonymously and GDPR-compliant via the app. The data is stored on servers in Germany and is not passed on or sold to third parties. The tracked routes are incorporated into the creation of a heatmap, which is intended to support the city of Dortmund's traffic planning in order to sustainably improve cycling friendliness in Dortmund. The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) supports these measures.
